Demolition Cabinet

I keep hearing people bemoaning Trump’s cabinet picks. I hear them railing against their lack of qualifications, their criminal history, their sex crimes, that they would never pass background checks, that they know nothing of running the departments of the Federal government they are being tapped to run. What I see very little of is open recognition that these cabinet picks are not being tapped to run a government at all. We saw this in Trump’s last term, but now he has the backing to go much further.

Remember Betsy DeVos tapped for Department of Education? She was named because she had a competing interest with public education in the ownership of charter schools. She was not placed there to make the Department of Education run more smoothly or improve public education. She was there to help bleed the department, making it less effective and shifting funding to cronies with profit motives.

Remember Louis DeJoy elevated to the US Postal Service? He had competing profit interests in companies competing with the USPS. We saw a deterioration in the efficacy of the postal service, a steep rise in rates, and growing delays in delivery times.

Tapping Matt Gaetz for the DOJ was not intended to streamline the Department of Justice. It was not supposed to do anything to promote the purposes of the DOJ. It was part of a concerted effort to take Federal resources and redirect them to assist with raiding the Federal Government such that it can not function as intended. He was to gut the enforcement arm for Trump insiders and shift it to supporting Trump’s declared intention to prosecute his rivals.

Trump has already indicated a feud with the National Park Service, Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Drug Administration, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Internal Revenue Service, the diplomacy efforts of the State Department, the National Institutes of Health, OSHA, the National Labor Relations Board, the Federal Reserve Bank, and the Securities and Exchange Commission, among others. He began that in his previous term, but he now has much more power to wield with the Supreme Court in his pocket and a Senate unwilling to challenge him on anything at all.

These are not cabinet picks we would expect for a working government because that is not at all what Trump is interested in. He has told us this, but we still don’t want to listen. He has shown his hand, but we won’t look at it. We’ve seen and read Project 2025, but we’ve taken it as a joke. We have even watched mainstream news media bow to pressure of fear that he might come after anyone who speaks unkindly of him.

Trump is not putting together a working government. He is putting together a demolition team intent on reshaping the country in an unrecognizable manner. I sincerely hope I am wrong, but every new cabinet pick just seems to further confirm the intention to destroy what we have built over the last 248 years.
